Training
The Dance Therapy, according to the method María Fux, is a deep path self-knowledge, communication with the other and with the surrounding reality through movement.
It is the ability to accept your own limitations and to transcend them at the same time; a body language that is expressed and revealed following a pathway made of consciousness, presence, freedom and affection.
The Dance Therapy stands to the side and integrates, in a valid way, other pathways, such as traditional medicine or psychology, but in the training process there is no need of complementary aspects. It is in fact based on a peculiar language, and so it follows the intuition of the person that created this Methodology: María Fux.
The training is organized through the knowledge of Dance Therapy as body language, in the dimension of listening to themselves and to the others, in meticulously protected conduction paths, geared to reach its external applications in groups with different identities and difficulties.
“Fully in line with my teacher María Fux, I say that the Dance Therapy is a long, perhaps infinite, truth-seeking. It does not feed of recipes or inventions that follow the criteria established by marketing. I think it is, on the contrary, a choice made of flights and drops, a wise learning of how to listen, it knows no vanity no haste. It moves me to see groups in Brazil, in Italy and Nepal, which are open to this meeting that I defin,e without hesitation, as love.”

The Training follows the international parameters: 3 years for a total amount of 1,200 hours.
In order to obtain the certification of Dance Therapist, the student should follow the following methodological steps:
– 360 hours of training
– Listening experience
– Protected conductions
– Conduction in external fields
– supervisions
– Elaboration of a thesis
The entire training program is supplemented by proposals that we call ‘artistic languages’, meaning the disciplines that promote the student access to the expression of the artistic language according to the implications that all this has on the essential creative process required for the Dance Therapist.
It was considered fundamental the insertion of paths that give priority to other forms of artistic languages, such as: the Music, the Sounds Landscape, the use of the Voice, the Folk dances.
The training is structured as follows
360 hours of training with mandatory attendance for three years (see calendar). The academic year runs from September to May.
Before the thesis any lost hours of training during the entire course shall be recoup.
1st Year
• 120 hours of training
• Experience of Listening for a total of 120 hours:
– 20 hours in the family
– 20 hours in the workplace (work environment)
– 40 hours in an external structure
– 40 hours of re-elaboration of these experiences
The experience of listening will be described in two papers, one for each experience (the first for the family and professional life, the second for external structures), which will be delivered to the school by the beginning of the 2nd year of training.
At the end of the course each student will be asked for sharing the experience of listening lived with at least two teachers of the Equipe of his/her choice.
The experience of listening is expected to be during the 1st year of training to give the students the opportunity to experience a dimension of listening to themselves and the others, the difficulties and problems of everyday life often “not heard” as a prerequisite to capture a different quality of communication and relationships.
To be consistent with the purposes of SI.Danza, this experience is done before in his/her family and business reality, and then it is introduced also in an educational and / or social health structure, chosen by the student, different or similar to those in which he/she has experience. The listening experience will be the subject of two papers, whose the meaning is to reflect on what you have lived, giving himself/herself a chance to understand it, to identify with it and share it with the teachers of the Equipe.
This can be held at institutions that operate in the social welfare area. Further clarifications and explanations, in reference to the possible facilities will be provided during the meetings of the 1st year.
2nd Year
• 120 hours of training
• Protected conductions for a total of 125 hours
The protected conductions should be dealt with within the family, friends or co-workers or training, in groups of 4 or 5 participants. The project involves proposals of Dance therapy chosen by the student.
They must be organized in the following form:
Each student must achieve a minimum of conductions of 2 hours and 30 minutes per month, whereas for every hour of conduction, 4 hours are calculated for the research, preparation, planning, reflection and preparation (a total of 5 hours). In this way, 25 hours of actual protected conduction will be held within a year.
In case the subgroup is formed by colleagues of the formation, for example 6 persons, the group count a total of 15 hours monthly conduction (6 persons engaged individually for 2 hours and 30 each), to be managed freely according to the needs of the group.
During the personal conductions, each student will carry out three videos of his/her experience of conduction, which would present the three different times of the path: one at the beginning, one in the middle and one at the end.
• Supervisions
There are moments of comparison and verification of his/her own experience in leading the groups, of the consistency between the proposed and organized paths, of clarification of doubts and questions. The supervision will be given by the teachers of Dance Therapy, in groups or individually.
This will take place in three different times throughout the year for a total of at least 3 hours of supervision.
The video recordings made by the student for their “protected” conductions will be subject of verification.
3rd year
• 120 hours of training
• Protected conductions for a total of 125 hours (see description for the second year)
• conductions in external structures for a total of 200 hours
Each student carries out the conductions of one hour per week in a structure outside the training. The structure will be recommended or approved by the teachers. For every hour of conduction 5 hours are considered to be involved, according to the counting mode described for the protected conductions. In this way, 40 hours of actual conduction will counted during this year.
The proposal will be designed and developed by the student considering the context in which it is inserted.
• Supervisions
(see the description for the second year)
• Final thesis for a total amount of 264 hours
It includes:
– A written report on a topic related to Dance Therapy
– A video (as a synthesis of the experience)
– A Dance presentation
